Not Twilight but VERY GOOD all the same. December 20, 2008 This is the 17 year old daughter reporting after recentlly, meaning tonight, finishing the Vampire Diaries Series. In this review I will talk about all "4" books in the series. Overall I give all of the books a rating of about a 4 or 4 1/2 stars. Book one-4 Book two-3 1/2 Book three-3 1/2 or 4 and Book four- 4 1/2.
Okay so I am a HUGE Twilight fan and was reccomended the Vampire Diaries. I had seen the books before but was cautious in reading it after the Twilight series but I decided that I needed to open myself up to other vampires and not just Edward and the Cullens. I believe that The Vampire Diaries is definietely a more intense series in that it has more violence and such in it than Twilight which made it a fairly quick read. There were lots of points when I just could not stop reading. For example, at the end of the first book I literally bolted upstairs to get the next one because I could not not read the next book. My favorite books were the first book into the second book and definitely the fourth book. In fact, I like the fourth book's ending in The Vampire Diaries better than the ending of the last book of the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn. I definetly believe that this is a good read for all Twilight fans and cannot wait to read more of L.J. Smith's works.
would you become a fantasy creature if someone loved you? December 18, 2008 I thought the Awakening was a really good because of all the mysteries that left you hanging off a cliff. L. J. Smith is a very inspiring author. Her ability to write horror and romance books is just amazing. Elena finds out some pretty crazy stuff that she never thought would exist, but she didn't expect she would fall in love with it. Elena falls in love with this mysterious guy and finds out about all this crazy stuff, which would be pretty scary, but she doesn't get afraid. She does the complete opposite and gets closer to this mysterious guy, but here comes the question, would she become just like him just so she could be with him forever? The setting is in this really small town called Fells. All of the creepy accidents happen in the Fell's cemetery, which makes me scared to go into a cemetery ever. So about the characters now, Elena she's supposedly the most popular girl in school and can have anybody she wants. She's actually a really nice person once you get to know her. She has two best friends Bonnie and Meredith, Bonnie is supposedly a druid and Meredith would be her normal friend. They would do anything for Elena if she asked them to. Now Stephan on the other hand is a really big mystery, he doesn't really talk much and doesn't like to socialize and almost every girl in the school likes him, but yet he has a really big secret that nobody knows. Matt is Elena's ex-boyfriend, he's a really sweet guy and helps Elena out whenever he can. At first I thought this book was just going to be just another Twilight series, but I was completely wrong. This book is no where near Twilight and is a lot more scarier then Twilight. Yet I still think that this book is amazing because of the romance of Elena and all the secrets she gets told. I couldn't put this book down once I started it, it was like a magnet. I highly recommend this book to everyone that loves vampires and romance stories.
How in the world did I miss this one? December 3, 2008 So this book was originally the first two books in a four book arc called "The Vampire Diaries" published in the early 90's. This was a time when I was eating up Fear Street books by R.L. Stine and everything I could find by Christopher Pike. How in the world did I miss this gem back in the day? This is the story of Elena, who meets and falls in love with Stefan, a vampire. Stefan drinks only animal blood and is fairly shamed by what he is. All is well and good between the two of them until Stefan's evil (human blood sucking) brother Damon shows up and decided he wants Elena as well as revenge upon his brother. Suddenly the town has attacks and murders galore, and Stefan looks to be the guilty party. Only Stefan and Elena believe that this is Damon's work. The beginning set up to this story is very similar to Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. I don't believe they are enough alike to call for any copyright issues, but let's just say I wouldn't be suprised if Stephanie Meyer might have read a copy of this book fifteen plus years ago. As much as I like the Twilight series, this first installment of Vampire Diaries was much darker, and some of the scenes were rather creepy. The book has pretty much non-stop action. Her characters are interesting too, especially Elena. Elena isn't exactly the kind of girl most of us would root for. She is the queen bee in her school social circle and she isn't above walking over the underlings. The faults of her character only make her seem all the more real. Damon is fun to hate, and you can actual feel the sinister oozing off of him. Stefan's a nice vampire, but he is probably the most bland of all the main characters. Bonnie, Elena's best friend, is also a well-drawn character. She has some psychic ability, but is also one of Elena's admirers. At the beginning of the book I felt like Elena kept Bonnie around to use, but it becomes quickly apparent that Elena cares about Bonnie and their other friend Meredith. This book was a great rollercoaster ride-like thrill and I am very happy that I had already purchased The Fury and Dark Reunion. I want to jump right in and finish these off. I recommend this book strongly to anyone in the YA market or anyone that was in the YA market many years ago, and may have missed it the first time around.
HIS LUST FOR BLOOD BROUGHT DEATHLESS TERROR TO ALL November 28, 2008 The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle (Vampire Diaries) Elena is cool, blond and slender - the girl every boy wants and every girl wants to be. Always in comtrol, no boy has ever stirred her innermost feelings-until she meets Stefan. Drawn to him with a fightening intensity, overwhelmed by desire, Elena knows that she must make Stefan hers. But Stefan is hiding a terrible secret. Centuries earlier, his love for another left him with a terrible legacy, the curse of living forever as a vampire. Aching to respond to Elena, he struggles to resist. For if he and Elena should come together, he fears his passion would demand the ultimate gift of love...
I Love Elena! October 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like a lot of the other readers of this series, I also read The Vampire Diaries years ago, when it first came out. I have always loved this series. I remember reading The Fury and crying my heart out when the sad stuff happened. Now, we have Twilight. I'm probably partial to the Vampire Diaries because I read that first and I was a lot younger when I read it. Things are just a little more magical when you're young. I'm about halfway through Twilight and I cannot help but compare the characters. Elena just has WAY more spunk than Bella.
