Product Description In a small village outside of Phnom Pehn, little children as young as five years old were forced to live as sex slaves. Day after day their hope was slipping away. Tireless workers from International Justice Mission (IJM) infiltrated the ring of brothels and gathered evidence to free the children. Headed up by former war-crimes investigator Gary Haugen, IJM faced impossible odds-police corruption, death threats, and mission-thwarting tip-offs. But they used their expert legal finesse and high-tech investigative techniques to save the lives of 37 young girls and secured the arrest and conviction of several perpetrators. Terrify No More focuses on this dramatic rescue story, and uses flashbacks to tell those of many other victims who were given a second chance at life by this amazing organization. Readers of John Grisham and Ted Dekker novels will appreciate the suspense, plot twists, and relentless pursuit of justice found in the true story of Terrify No More.

Terrify No More is a MUST READ! December 16, 2008 I heard about Gary Haugen when I saw a 20/20 episode years ago on child trafficking and prostitution. I was disgusted by seeing children as young as 7 years old negotiating a price for sex. Then in the early 2000s I came upon Gary Haugen again when I did research for grad school and I purchased "Terrify No More." It is a beautifully written book describing the undercover mission of his brave staff and supportive law enforcement who risked their lives to save children from the traffickers, pimps and sex tourists who prey on them. I couldn't put the book down--it was like a movie. I was riveted by the strategies and the action, sick that in this lifetime there is still not enough attention on human trafficking and child prostitution, that perpetrators are often unpunished, and that countries are not supporting legislation to prosecute the people behind the sex trade. Yet, I am extremely grateful that there are people like Gary Haugen and his staff whose mission is to protect our children no matter how dangerous the situation may be. This book is a MUST READ for anyone who thinks that they are not affected by the victimization of children.
Sensitivity, Combined With a Special Smack-Down October 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I suppose people might find a title such as that mine, at the least, inappropriate. But to the people that suffer injustices, such as the ones mentioned in this book, it is highly appropriate. "Terrify No More" is the story of men on a mission, with the help needed to pull off what seemed to be impossible. To rescue little Cambodian girls who know of life in these Cambodian brothels, to tell the story is a great importance.
I can't imagine the injustice these girls had to have felt. A lot of them were promised work if they moved away from their families. They were promised work making noodles, or work in a textile place. But once they took the ride, and arrived to that place of work, they realized that not only were they in for a world of hurt, but humiliation that could last a lifetime. And the pimps that own these places would tell them that wearing a smile, and having sex with strangers was the life they better get used to, or else! And when you think of young girls, teenagers might come to mind. But some of the girls are as young as five. That's sick!
The story of International Justice Mission is nothing short of amazing, as you learn about these everyday people with the skills to rescue these young girls. And while it is simply a job to them, they are nothing short of heroes in the eyes of these little girls. These workers who feel God has called them to shut down the trashy dumps that these girls call home, and to do something better for them.
When you are faced with what you or I might call a "hopeless situation," I'd encourage you to read the likes of these burdens! Because I'm telling you, I may have lost jobs, I may have even been arrested for something petty, but it just doesn't compare to what these girls went through. What makes it sad is that it still goes on. Some girls from a certain place might get rescued, but they are still out there.
But certain people have gotten justice, and that's awesome! You wouldn't wish life like this on any kind of enemy, no way. Yeah, I'd say you would have to have a certain sensitivity to deal with something like this. And then to get old-school, you'd want to put a smack down on the bad guys that leave a message to never forget!!
Disappointment September 6, 2007 0 out of 22 found this review helpful
This book is a great disappointment. Buying this book I thought to obtain some serious information on the subject. I didn't expect to buy some superficial nonsence of a local U.S. sect. To European standards Gary Haugen's prostelitizing is appalling obscene and self serving and in this IJM is to be considered a dangerous sect. Don't buy this book.
Painful, powerful book -- may change your life August 19, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Sometimes enlightenment comes like a cold slap in the face. That's what this book delivers -- stories of abuse and oppression that most people don't know exist in our world today. I didn't. But Haugen and Hunter, in a style that is smooth and suspenseful, tell the stories of numerous victims of slavery and oppression who were helped through brave undercover operations by true-life heroes. At times heart-breaking and painful, at others joyful and celebretory, this book is hard to put down. You won't want to, but you will want to give copies to your friends. Nicely done. Thanks for helping me to understand the world just a little bit better outside my own whitewashed life.
Terrible yet captivating November 27, 2006 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Haugen, Gary A. Terrify No More. Nashville, TN. W Publishing Group. 2005. This riveting book by Gary A. Haugen, founder and president of the International Justice Mission(IJM), first-handedly tells the story of a mission proposed by members of IJM, to rescue child sex slaves from Savy Pak, a city in Cambodia that is infamous for its sex trafficking and sex tourism. IJM is a non-profit organization that fights for justice in a world riddled with injustice. This book is amazing as the reader is placed in the middle of the action. However, the content of the book can be extremely disturbing as one reads of the conditions and terrors that these young children face; but there is an amazing sense of hope that comes through to let the reader know that this is not a hopeless case, there is something that is being done. This book traces chronologically the path that IJM took to rescue a few of the millions of children that are trapped in the sex trade. Photos of the children and the conditions help the reader grasp reality through pictures. The book is geared towards those of the college age and older; an easy read that emphasizes the cause of justice in an unjust world. This book gave me a first hand account of the fight against sex trafficking which is what my senior thesis is discussing, I used this book as a basis to understnd more about the sex trade, and those who fight against it.
