Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Since the destruction of the Hellmouth, the Slayers - newly legion - have gotten organized and are kicking some serious undead butt. But not everything's fun and firearms, as an old enemy reappears and Dawn experiences some serious growing pains. Meanwhile, one of the "Buffy" decoy slayers is going through major pain of her own. Buffy creator Joss Whedon brings Buffy back to Dark Horse in this direct follow-up to season seven of the smash-hit TV series. The bestselling and critically acclaimed issues #1-5 are collected here for the first time, as are their covers by Jo Chen and Georges Jeanty.

4 out of 5 stars Not a Bad Introduction   January 6, 2009
I've been purchasing all the single issues(I'm up to #20)and am getting the trades to keep. This is a good re-introduction to all the characters, though if you're completely new to Buffy, you should familiarize yourself with the main series first. The art isn't bad, and the story made me go out and get the rest of the arc. Personally I think "The Chain" is the best thing here, and the fact that it's a one-shot doesn't hurt either.

4 out of 5 stars lots of expectation   December 28, 2008
It gives you a lot of information, and you end up starving for more, with endless hunger of more buffyverse. (watch out! spoiler!>) Though I still think that Dawn, eventhough they have her Giantic, it's still a lame character...)

1 out of 5 stars Whedon's frat boy fixation   December 22, 2008
1 out of 4 found this review helpful

If you got annoyed with Whedon's seemingly frat-boy infatuation with girl on girl action in Buffy the TV series, then this series is not for you. If you felt like the scenes between Willow and Tara in the TV series were focused more on a self-serving agenda (gratuitous frat-boy fantasy fulfillment for Whedon or a 'look how hip we are' attitude) than on a realistic relationship, get ready; this series takes it a step further: Buffy's love interest in these books is another female slayer. Apparently, Whedon is incapable of writing a romance between a man and a woman without having the male be either touched by evil (vampires, werewolves, etc.) or an emasculated male with no strengths whatsoever. He also seems incapable of writing or conceiving of a strong female character that is opposite-sex-oriented. Very disappointing that Whedon couldn't write a Buffy story without satisfying his juvenile infatuation with seeing two girls make out. I threw the book out with the trash and will not buy the next edition. Grow up Whedon.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome back, Buffy   November 24, 2008
It was good to return to the Buffyverse for me. Since I am a new comer to it who purchased the entire series and watched Season 1-7 straight through earlier this year, it was not a long lost friend but someone who was on a brief sabatical while I watched Angel Seasons 1-5. I never watched them while they were on air so I don't know all the cancellation drama, just that they were well respected series.
While this is the start of Season 8, Buffy is now international and after watching the final season of Angel just these past couple of weeks I had to snicker at the indication that there were a couple of body double Buffy's out there as well as the genuine article, who is hanging out in Scotland with an Army of Slayers along with some old friends. We are also reintroduced to a couple of old enemies and a brand new one that will stir the pot for the entire season.
I did miss the snappy reparte and could envision the characters speaking their dialogue, just as if this were still an actual TV show. Good stuff and I have read the first three chapters of the season, all that has been produced up to this point, and I am already excited for more.

5 out of 5 stars BtVS continues on!   November 22, 2008
The continuation of Buffy! I've been watching the show since it first aired when I was ten years old, and am something of a "picky" fan. I throughly enjoy Season Eight thus far, and highly recommend this purchase to any and all BtVS fans!
