Product Description
Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

1 out of 5 stars Not Worth Your While   December 4, 2008
On the strength of the blurb, "The #1 New York Times Bestseller," I purchased "The Shack." What a piece of garbage! This purports to be an encounter with God, complete in the Holy Trinity," at a shack used by a murderer and child molester. Most all of this book is a "conversation with God," as arrogant, presumptuous and ultimately, vacuous piece of claptrap as I have ever laid eyes upon. All of which is in answer to "a great sadness" suffered by the protagonist in his loss of his youngest child; a six year old girl. No true answers are given here. Rather this book with its facile theology and new age platitudes, is an affront to those of us who have really suffered such a loss.

4 out of 5 stars Great Fictional Book   December 4, 2008
I'd heard a lot about this book and decided to buy it. It is a great fictional book about the character "Mack" and his fictional relationship with God. If you like fiction, it's a fun read. If you're looking for an inspiring book and a deeper walk with God, you may want to consider the book entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me after One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone" by John H. Eagan. I could see by the reviews here that many people are struggling with their faith and have many difficult questions about God. If this is your problem, then "The Enlightenment" is your answer. This book, like The Shack," will also make you cry but in a deeper and truer sense, once you discover the great love that is waiting for you, through John's enlightenment.

1 out of 5 stars Nice warm fuzzies -what we all crave, isn't it?   December 4, 2008

I read the book. It surprises me that so many say this book changed their life. I wonder why the Bible hasn't done the same for them.

I also wonder how Young would handle Scriptures like II Samuel 6:6-7?

For those who desire a life change that's truly lasting, I highly recommend the Bible. All of it. Not just the parts that give you warm fuzzies, but also the parts that make you think, that humble you, and those that drive you to your knees in prayer.

5 out of 5 stars Clarity   December 4, 2008
This book does an amazing job of clarifying many difficult questions that we all struggle to understand. Whether you consider yourself a mature Christian, or someone searching for their faith, you will find answers in The Shack. The main character, Mack, is all of us. His discoveries will become new understanding for you.

I honestly enjoyed every page of this book. It touched my heart in a special way.It gives good insight to the forgiveness that has been extended to each of us from God.
